Reproduction type II bayonet
About time right? Well, we still are not doing this but we feel lucky in that the person doing these for us REALLY knows their stuff and the result is awesome! When we first started this project MAS 36 bayonets were around for 15 plus shipping. Boy has THAT changed! Many have complained that they either can’t find a MAS bayonet or when they do they are pretty expensive.
The Mas 36 bayonet is actually closer in looks to the type I than the type II as you can see from the pictures. And, it’s use was never a perfect solution but was the best up until now. The reproduction is based off an original and except for a couple of differences that have to be closely measured to know, and lack of makers code stamps, they are exact duplicates. Enough said……
The plan is to offer them blued – I am pretty sure these will blue – or parked at $175.00 each. Yes that is a lot of money but probably less than if we made them here and the quality is, well, awesome. Compare that to the shortened for free MAS 36 bayonet (yes we still offer to do this if you prefer) and it comes down to a choice of money vs correctness/looks.
And yes, this bayonet will fit all the rifles we have previously sold so if you want to replace the MAS bayonet you have now it is a true plug in replacement. Please review the pictures below. As always click on the picture for a clearer/larger view.

We have always in the past – and will continue to offer the free service of shortening your MAS 36 bayonet to fit the FG42. Making reproduction bayonets has always been on the “would like to do” list but time always works against us. Then we were fortunate enough to be approached by a man that makes awesome quality reproduction parts for older rifles and we agreed to buying a run of them.
As has been the case a number of times through this process the availability of having access to hard to get FG42 parts allows us to “know” things we did not know before. Things like the fact the type I bayonet looks nearly identical to the MAS bayonet – knurling and all – it is over 1/2 inch longer……… The type II has no knurling.
What this does is it means that any MAS bayonet we shorten for a type II will be WAY too short for a type I – which it more closely looks like. And since we have some type II reproductions being made a thought might be to buy one of those and save the MAS bayonet for the type I. This is not a sales ploy as we still shorten them free but an awareness thing since the MAS bayonets are getting tougher and more expensive to find.

And yes, we are going to build the type I – about 30 days or less from starting test firing to send a sample to ATF. Just a heads up……
